Educational Data Mining Postdoctoral Research Position

Overview: The Institute for Intelligent Systems is seeking candidates interested in postdoctoral research with a specialization in educational data mining, in connection with an award to perform textual analysis and classification data mining on a corpus of over one million online human tutoring sessions. This research offers opportunities to explore fundamental questions about the nature of tutoring dialog, as well as strong opportunities for publication based on a unique data set. This project is the first phase of a multiphase project, which, if awarded, could extend the position by an additional year or more.

Requirements: Candidates inquiring about this position should have prior expertise in educational text mining, with a current or immediately anticipated Ph.D. in a related area of specialization (e.g., natural language processing, analysis of tutoring log corpora, analysis of big data). Candidates should be capable of independently programming data analyses and should also have prior experience using existing 3rd party tools and packages for data mining, such as the Weka toolkit. Recent Ph.D. recipients are encouraged to apply. Experience with classification problems (e.g., speech act classifiers, affect classifiers, textual analysis) is preferred.
