CALL FOR CHAPTERS

I have the pleasure to invite you to submit a chapter proposal for the Springer edited book entitled: "Educational Data Mining: Applications and Trends"

It will be published as a volume of the Springer Series: “Studies in Computational Intelligence” http://www.springer.com/series/7092

Educational Data Mining (EDM) is a new discipline based on the Data Mining (DM) baseline (i.e., composed by models, tasks, methods and algorithms) to explore data from educational settings to find out descriptive patterns and predictions that characterize learners’ behaviors and achievements, domain knowledge content, assessments, and educational functionalities and applications.

The book pursues to cover the basic theories, models, frameworks, tasks, methods, algorithms and case studies of the EDM field. Thereby, a chapter submission to the book must describe an advance with respect to one or more of the following topics: 1) DM logistics (e.g., frameworks, approaches, tools, software…) applied to the educational field; 2) user modeling; 3) web mining of educational sources; 4) mining of logs and assessment produced by the learner-educational system interactions; 5) DM applied to the adaptation and personalization of educational content and services; 6) evaluation of teacher support and educational system performance based on DM; 7) business intelligence architectures and information repositories oriented to the educational field; 8) prediction of users’ behaviors and achievements; 9) EDM case studies.

All chapters will be rigorously peer-reviewed based on the quality: originality, relevance, organization, clarity of writing, support provided for assertions and conclusion, and attractiveness to readers. The manuscript length ranges from 20 up to 25 pages. The format of the manuscript must apply Springer book series guidelines and template available at: http://www.springer.com/series/7092

Interested contributors are expected to submit a 2-page chapter proposal to the editor’s Email edm@wolnm.org. The chapter proposal should contain the following items: 1) title of chapter; 2) authors’ profile (names, affiliations, Email, corresponding author); 3) abstract (up to 400 words); 4) justification; 5) content list; 7) references. The proposal’s justification must clearly identify: 1) the DM baseline of the approach; 2) the educational settings tackled by the approach; 3) the approach’s contributions to some of the prior identified topics.

The time schedule is: 1) chapter proposal due: March 31, 2013; 2) notification: April 15; 3) full chapter due: June 30; 4) chapter revision: August 15; 5) notification: August 31; 6) camera-ready chapter: September 30; 7) Electronic version: December 15, 2013.
